It appears that rookie quarterback made a great impression on his team mates during last week’s mini camp. Luck practiced with the team for the first time this off season. He missed all of the OTAs because the NFL prohibits players from practicing until they finish the current semester of school. Luck’s arrival was highly anticipated and it came with a great deal of pressure. Fortunately for Luck, and the franchise, the first pick of the 2012 NFL Draft did not disappoint.
Luck took command of the offense and showed off not only his athletic abilities but also his intelligence. Luck was able to change plays and had a great command of the playbook. Starting wide receiver Reggie Wayne made the following comments about Andrew Luck according to Colts.com:
“He’s out there having fun, smiling. He’s not super serious all the time. Whenever you see a quarterback out there having fun, you have fun. I see him doing real well. I see a very, very promising quarterback. I can see him going a long way. He has a strong arm. He pays attention to details. Whenever he makes a mistake, he owns up to it. He’s everything you want in a quarterback.”
Many other players also praised Luck like Coby Fleener and Austin Collie. Offensive Coordinator Bruce Arians was also impressed with Luck’s ability. Arians believes that Luck can be really successful in this offense. However, he knows that Luck needs the repetitions and the practice time over the summer to get his timing down with the other players and to learn the proper reads.
Colts GM Ryan Grigson echoed the excitement of the players and coaches. Grigson made the following comments about Andrew Luck to the team’s official website:
“You can’t help but kind of get magnetized to watching him because he does things so well. Andrew seems to exceed expectations. I think the sky is the limit. He needs to continue to grow in this offense, which he will. There is no doubt about his arm strength. We knew that from way back. Andrew was really strong in the private workout we had with him, and he showed it out there. He made some impressive throws and showed what we already had seen on tape. It was neat seeing it in a Colts uniform, with a Colts helmet on.”
Colts fans are desperately hoping that Luck is “everything you want in a quarterback” since he’s replacing one of the greatest Colts player of all time in Peyton Manning. Luck will continue to study the playbook over the next month, watch film and prepare as much as possible before training camp begins in late July.
